Everyone who knows me, knows that I prefer the quality of a professional DSLR over the ease of use and small size of a compact system camera every day. There are exceptions however, as I experienced last Friday. I was out testing three compact system cameras for Fotografie magazine and made a stop for a quick lunch at the famous island of Marken. Sitting there, I noticed how used the house sparrows were to humans. They were all around my table to get some crumbs of my lunch. I took out one of the test cameras (Olympus E-PL3), held it close to the table surface, and put some sugar on the table to get the sparrows on the table. Many shots were out of focus, the birds are simply too fast for this camera. But this shot of a ‘dancing house sparrow’ really turned out well. I’m not sure if I would have been able to get the sparrows on to the table at all, if I had pointed a big professional DSLR at them!
